Food Adventures of the Week

Highlights of the week:

Friday:
Brutal night for young Xuemin. We tried to make ourselves feel better with some pie. We had a slice of Coconut Cream and a slice of Lemon Meringue. None of them are the best I've ever had at Nation's, but I much preferred the Lemon Meringue over the Coconut Cream... only because it was less overwhelmingly sweet.

Saturday:
Not too much of eventful day.

Sunday:
Kyongsun, one of my language exchange buddies from Seoul, who is currently studying abroad at UC Davis, came up for a short visit with her friends. We toured campus for a little and then went to the Berkeley Art Museum to look at the Andy Warhol exhibit. Unbeknownst to me, Berkeley students get free admission and one free guest admission! Whoot! Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of us together X_X. Oh wells, it was good to see her and hopefully I can see her again soon.

Brutal day for my young roommate young Jay and so we followed it up with some Ici Ice Cream. I had a Mango-lime sorbet -- fantastic and fruity. My waffle cone was amazing too! We witnessed a young boy dropping his cone and because of our loud "OH NO!s," the workers realized it, and gave him a new cone. Yay!

Monday:
Had a beautiful, amazing conversation over lunch with Lisa and Kamne at Venus Restaurant. I got the Royale Omelette with a biscuit. While I admit the jam and biscuit combination was quite delicious, I don't believe it quite lived up to my high expectations.

Tuesday:
Can't remember... must not have been very eventful... Other than class and Janice's horrible bug.

Wednesday:
Janice was feeling a little better this day (she was suffering from quite a mean bug) and so we decided to eat out at Racha's. Being quite unadventurous and torn between the numerous options, I opted for Pad Thai. Meanwhile, Xuemin had the eggplant rice plate and Janice had the Tom Yum soup. Everything was delicious and flavorful. I especially enjoyed the Tom Yum soup, fantastic!

Thursday:
Today was clean up day. After vacuuming and cleaning, we were pooped. We decided to go on another food adventure. This time, Ethiopian food. Oakland actually has quite a large Ethiopian community and indeed, there are quite a few restaurants in the area. Cafe Colucci is one of the more well known locations. We had a lamb plate (Begue Tibs) and a meat combination which allowed us to try 5 of the different meat plates. It was quite a nice ambiance and feeling. Parking was a little rough, but that's normal. The food was pretty delicious and I enjoyed eating with my hands :) Service was excellent, the waiters were extremely pleasant and constantly refilled our water.

Shoutout to Janice

Oh Janice, young child with almond eyes, why do you look like a nut, when you smile? Your round head and pale skin, I think you look like a fresh peanut. Your "mama hang" whine is fresh and refreshing But your smell is not. Why oh why, does Janice smile with almond eyes?

Minor Update While Studying

As I'm currently in the middle of midterms (two midterm papers due in approx. 1.5 days), I don't really have an opportunity to sit and type, but just a minor update. Among my long list of things-to-do (which is still currently sitting in the draft section of my blog and is continually updated but yet to be posted), I've added the goal to be able to successfully sing(/rap...) one of Tablo's songs by the end of the semester. Epik High (the group of which Tablo is a rapper and leader of) was one of the first Korean artists that I was exposed to as a young 6th grader. It was love at first sound... I remember back in the days... Tablo is one of those completely talented, genius type folks that make me go "WOW". Anyways, I digress. He recently released his CD (pt 1, which I am buying asap along with part 2 probably) after a 2-year hiatus and it's just gorgeous. The meanings of the lyrics, the beat, the sounds... everything flows so beautifully. Especiall...

Obtainable Goals: Conquering the RSF & Food Finds & Forever21 order

I've decided to switch back or rather add some more easily obtainable goals. One of which is to try every single Group-X exercise class offered by the RSF (the campus gym) at least once by the end of the semester or at the very least, this summer -- although I must say, the caveat might be the aqua classes given I don't have swimwear here and classes in Hearst Gym.... In the past, I have tried: Bollywood -- quite fun but the steps can get complicated Cardio Kickboxing -- whew, what a work out, I couldn't even make it through the whole session Some yoga class but I can't remember which one -- it was so slow, I almost fell asleep This semester, I have tried: Nia -- quite fun, the instructor was super nice and it was a lot about grounding yourself and finding yourself Toning Express -- quite intense and quick too, only 30 minutes! This week alone, I have tried: Power Yoga -- Not bad, not too rigorous either -- there was a focus on aligning your breath with you...
