In case you didn't know this already, I'm horrible at updating my blog. However, I am attempting to make a genuine effort to log all of my Nepal experiences.
I can't remember all the details and I don't have the patience to sit and recollect and type for what may take hours... so instead I will do highlights/brief summaries. Haha.
Day 4: Durbar Square, Wedding Pre-reception
Neha and I woke early on this day and returned to Durbar Square. I tried on my top for my sari and though it was a little loose, Neha didn't want to compromise the top by having the store fix it. By the way, if you are ever in Nepal, the store I went to is called Chanda Chakori. The workers are extremely nice, the store is clean, the saris are beautiful, and the value is amazing (as in, they don't scam you and give you great quality)... or at least it seems like it to me, Neha, and Neha's mom.
Note: Pictures will be posted at a later time. As well, we recorded a video of him putting the sari on me.
2nd Note: There was a beautiful blue sari that I loved but was out of my price range... perhaps I will one day buy it for Neha's wedding, kekeke.
We returned to the shawl store to find a matching shawl. I went a little crazy purchasing some more shawls and scarves. We also stopped by Neha's favorite hang-out spots back in the day... Snowman's in Freak Street and ummm... a snack shop nearby whose name I can't remember at the moment.
Neha went to the dentist and we visited her aunt's home. More chi-ah tea! Delicious!
The pre-reception dinner was held at 1905, which is a restaurant that was former palace property under the Rana regime. Gorgeous.
Highlights: Henna, on both hands front and back for the first time. Absolutely gorgeous.
Day 5: Engagement Ceremony
Attended the engagement ceremony. Everyone was beautiful. Food was delicious. Held in former palace grounds.
Highlights: Wore a sari for the first time. Exciting! Ate with my hands (legitly -- as in curry and rice and daal) for the first time.
Day 6: Actual Wedding Ceremony
Woke up bright and early today and we arrived at the groom's house (Kaushik) at 8am. There is a tradition where the groom goes to the bride's house. Then there is a procession later in the day when the bride goes to the groom's house (more tearful and sad).
There are two neat traditions pertaining to the day: the bride's side tries to steal the groom's shoes and holds them hostage for an agreed price. Likewise, the groom's side prohibits the bride from entering until she gifts them with something (an envelope of money might be common).
Highlights: Tried a Nepali dessert. Rode in a taxi in Nepal for the first time.
Had a lovely dinner with Neha and her family. Made me miss my family.
Note: Wore another sari, borrowed from Neha's mom. So exciting!
Only 1.5 days left! Sigh. So sad. Oh wells. I'm going to embark on a lone journey tomorrow. Wish me luck and safety! :)
