I apologize for the incompleteness of my last post. I was quite upset when it happened suddenly. Sigh. Oh well, life goes on.
Word of warning, most likely, I don't have your (or anyone's) phone number. Please text/call me sometime :)

Regarding: It Gets Better
We had a discussion on Chela Sandoval's differential consciousness in class on Thursday.
In the most simplest terms, differential consciousness refers to the "practitioner’s ability to read the current situation of power and self-consciously choosing and adopting the ideological stand best suited to push against its configurations, a survival skill well known to oppressed peoples."
It is the ability to think and operate in different gears because of the limitations inherent in a singular mode of thinking.
My professor then proceeded to briefly discuss the "It Gets Better" Project that derived out of the suicides of teenagers who had been bullied because of their sexual orientation and suspected sexual orientation. Specifically, he showed one video made by Google Chrome (the first) and another by a queer female of color.
It Gets Better
It Doesn't Get Better, You Get Stronger
"So do I say it gets easier? No. My bottom line is that you get stronger and you get more beautiful and you believe in yourself harder."
I don't think that you need to be an LGBT female of color to recognize the strength and power of her words. Word. I especially enjoyed this video.

Oh right, the friend I said goodbye to were my year old black Vans. I took a picture but unfortunately it was erased from my phone with everything else.
You were a constant and consistent companion on my travels this past year. Thanks for keeping my toes dry and hanging on (even though you got all tore up) until the very end. I hope you are reincarnated into something awesome. After an amazing vacation in Shoe Heaven. Perhaps, some rain boots?
___
Still going strong on my path to physical and mental well being. Here's to health!
I decided to myself late last evening, after some rather inspirational stories on livestrong.com that I didn't want to have any more excuses :)
So here's to a journey of recovery, health, fitness, and happiness!
